KRISHNAN SAKOTAI

Krishnan Sakotai has had varied experience of over 20 years in the financial services industry, encompassing technology and business in the United States. With a master’s degree in computer science, Krishnan has always been at the intersection of finance and technology.

During the initial phase of his career Krishnan developed complex Risk Management and Treasury software for large multiproduct, multinational money center banks and corporate treasuries. These included products for Interest Rate Swaps, Forward Rate Agreements, Currency Options, and other derivatives.

Moving on to the business side of finance, Krishnan was involved in developing Quantitative Models for stock selection, portfolio construction and optimization, risk management for a $150 mm International Equity Fund at Standish, Ayer and Wood, a well-respected private wealth management company in Boston. In addition, he was involved in the portfolio management team as the analyst looking after the Asia ex-Japan part of the portfolio.

Krishnan also worked on areas like portfolio allocation across separately managed accounts, performance attribution, trade cost analysis, and other critical areas of the buyside process at State Street Research in Boston.

At Putnam Investments, Boston, Krishnan led the Quantitative Equity Data team with responsibility for investment and risk analytics data.

At Wellington Management, Boston, Krishnan worked on financial analytics for portfolio management and risk management.

On his return to India, Krishnan led one of the first Knowledge Process Outsourcing teams providing high end Equity Research, Risk Management services to front and middle office teams at hedge funds, fund administration firms and research firms in the US.

Krishnan has mentored many young aspirants looking to enter the financial services industry, but don’t know where to start or how to. Many of his mentees have fulfilling careers in the financial services industry across the world and in India.

Krishnan’s teaching methods are easy to understand, yet cover complex areas of finance while building from first principles. That way, even those who don’t have experience in the industry are able to progress step by step. Krishnan’s depth of knowledge and wide ranging experience in the financial services industry, coupled with his passion for seeing young students succeed beyond the classroom has garnered lot of appreciation and gratitude.
